The Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) has been preparing to launch an online project that will inform the organization of weekly blood needs at hospitals and allow it to directly provide the institutions with the blood required for surgical procedures.
Eskişehir and Kayseri were chosen as the pilot regions for the project, in effect in those areas for the past six months. President of the Turkish Red Crescent, Tekin Küçükali said the project was launched to facilitate the collection of blood and alleviate difficulties for the families of patients in locating available blood. "Thanks to the online system, we will be able to see when hospitals perform operations. They will let us know how many units of blood they need, and we will send them the required amount one or two days prior to the operation. We plan to launch this project countrywide."Küçükali said.
Kucukali said the project has been successful in the pilot regions and that patients and their families no longer have to search for blood themselves before procedures.
