“Supporting Livelihood for Agricultural Sector” Project Has Brought Its First Fruits

For “Turkish Red Crescent Livelihood Development Program Supporting Livelihood for Agricultural Sector” Project, was initiated on June 2018 and then carried out through the co-operations of Turkish Red Crescent Community Centers, Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and other partner organizations, first steps were taken in Mardin with an introductory event.

The Governor of Mardin Mustafa Yaman, Turkish Red Crescent Deputy Director General Alper Küçük and many guests form Mardin protocol attended to the introductory meeting of the project which was carried out in cooperation with our Community Center in Mardin and Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.

In this event, upon the opening speeches of Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Red Crescent Deputy Director General and the Governor of Mardin, a thank you plaque was presented to Fahri Yıldız, a peasant from Mardin, who granted his field to help the realization of this project and will also provide employment opportunity for 15 Syrian and 6 Turkish attendees.

Red Crescent Deputy Director General Alper Küçük stated his gratification, as an organization, for being a fundamental part of an earth-smelled project which is employment and production-oriented. He also remarked that especially in recent years, the humanitarian aid activities are also appreciated by the international public opinion. The Governor of Mardin Mustafa Yaman expressed his appreciation for the model study which was carried out for agricultural employment in a geography identified with agriculture and extended his thanks to the Turkish Red Crescent, the coordinator of the project and to the other project partners.

Strawberry and lavender will be cultivated in Mardin

As part of the studies initiated by the protocol signed with Provincial Directorate of Agriculture of Mardin in September 2018, a land of 11 decares was allocated to Turkish Red Crescent Mardin Community Center to be used for agricultural projects for 3 years.

Within the scope of the project, 5 decares of strawberry and 5 decares of lavender as well as lettuce in 2 greenhouses, 250 square-meters for each, are grown. Theoretical and practical trainings were realized and all trainings will be complemented after the harvest season trainings. The harvest will be sold by the beneficiaries who were trained through the cooperation with Provincial Directorate of Agriculture of Mardin. It is aimed that the beneficiaries will be able to earn their keep by means of the acquired yield.

Turkish Red Crescent Community Centers Agricultural Employment Project

With the “Turkish Red Crescent Livelihood Development Program Supporting Livelihood for Agricultural Sector” Project, of which project periods were initiated on June 2018 and then carried out through the co-operations of Turkish Red Crescent Community Centers, Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and other partner organizations, theoretical and practical vocational trainings are provided to the local people and Community Center beneficiaries while employment oriented co-operations are performed.

Protocols has been currently signed in Adana, Gaziantep, İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Mardin, Mersin, and Şanlıurfa while they are in the phase of signing in Konya and Hatay.  Trainings has started in Adana, Kilis, and Mardin. It is planned to reach more than 1000 beneficiaries until the end of 2019, within the scope of project.

Among the trainings under the project, courses such as stone fruits, mushroom, olive, and vegetable growing, medicinal and aromatic plant growing, strawberry and lavender growing, care of parks, gardens and groves, bread-making, green-housing, tree trimming training, beekeeping, ornamental plants can be found.
