Aid Relief Ship Sent to Famine-Stricken Sudan

A second aid ship carrying 3.000 tons of relief supplies was dispatched to Sudan on September 16, 2024, where nearly 25 million people, including 14 million children, urgently need assistance due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis. This shipment, organized by Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and Türk Kızılay, follows a previous delivery in July and was made possible with the support of donors and partners.
 
The latest shipment includes food, shelter materials and hygiene products. These items include essentials such as beds, blankets, generators, and temporary housing materials, along with critical hygiene supplies like baby diapers. The cargo is expected to reach Port Sudan, where Sudan Red Crescent will distribute it to those most in need.
 
Sudan’s Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
 
Sudan’s crisis, driven by the ongoing conflict, has displaced over 10 million people internally, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). The fighting, primarily centered in the capital Khartoum, has forced millions to seek refuge in neighboring countries, including Chad, Egypt, and South Sudan.
 
The conflict has severely limited access to food, water, healthcare, and other basic services, leaving a large portion of the population in dire need. More than a third of Sudan’s population is facing acute hunger, with millions on the brink of famine. Humanitarian organizations, including Türk Kızılay, continue to respond to the escalating needs amid challenging conditions.
