Born in Ankara in 1975, she graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine. She completed her medical specialisation training at Ankara Training and Research Hospital. Yılmaz worked as a chief assistant at Ankara Training and Research Hospital between 2003 and 2010. In 2008, she was awarded the title of Associate Professor, and in 2010, she served as Deputy Chief of Clinic at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital. In 2011, Yılmaz was appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Biochemistry, Yıldırım Beyazıt Faculty of Medicine, and in 2014, she earned the title of Professor at Yıldırım Beyazıt University.
Between 2012 and 2015, she served as the Educational and Administrative Supervisor of the Biochemistry Laboratory and as the Laboratory Coordinator at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital. From 2015 to 2016, she was the Secretary General of the Ankara 1st Regional Public Hospitals Association, and from 2016 to 2017, she served as Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health.
Yılmaz has numerous national and international publications. She is currently a faculty member in the Department of Medical Biochemistry at Yıldırım Beyazıt University and serves as an instructor at the Medical Biochemistry Clinic of Ankara City Hospital.
In addition, Yılmaz is a member of the TÜBİTAK BİDEP Advisory Board, a member of the Ministry of Health’s Medical Laboratory Science Board, and a full member of the IFCC C-NPU Commission.
From 2015 to 2023, Prof. Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Red Crescent. On 9 July 2023, she was elected President of the Turkish Red Crescent at the Extraordinary General Assembly.
In 2023, she was listed among the “World’s Most Influential Scientists” by Stanford University. In April 2025, she was appointed by the President of Türkiye as Deputy Chairperson of the Presidential Local Government and Disaster Policies Council. Married with three children, Yılmaz speaks English fluently.
On 5 May 2025, she was re-elected President of the Turkish Red Crescent at the General Assembly and continues to hold this position.
